This hearty soup can be a side or your entree. Kids love it!

Who doesn't love noodles? This dish takes a college kid's staple (ramen noodles) and elevates it to a meal you can be proud to serve. With the inexpensive noodles and leftover meat, an Asian Noodle Bowl is cost-effective way to feed dinner to a family of four! Double the recipe for company or find some excellent side dishes (in Accompaniments, below) to round out your dinner.

Ingredients

Procedure

Shred the cabbage into thin strips. In a wok, pour the tablespoon of vegetable oil and heat to medium heat. Add the cabbage and pork. Stir fry until the cabbage begins to soften. Open the packages of ramen noodles and remove the flavor packets. Add the can of chicken broth to the wok, the two packets of chicken flavoring, and 2 cans of tap water. Also add soy sauce. Bring the ingredients to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in green onions. Heat two minutes. Add the two packages of ramen noodles, breaking them into smaller pieces if you wish. Cook until the noodles are tender, about two to four minutes. Serve immediately.

Cooking Tips

Instead of pork, this dish could be made with leftover chicken or steak. If you want more spices, add a half teaspoon of minced ginger with the chicken broth, flavorings, and soy sauce. To add another vegetable, slice up some pea pods and add them when you add the green onions. Experiment with your own favorite ingredients.

Accompaniments

Asian Noodle Bowl can be served as a side dish or a main dish. To feed a crowd, opt for an array of Asian dishes and serve them in the Chinese take-out boxes you can purchase at novelty and party stores. This meal can be eaten with a fork, spoon, or chopsticks. Some other great dishes to serve with Asian Noodle Bowl are Fried Rice, Chicken and Ham Stir Fry, and Asian Lettuce Wraps. Don't forget a big bowl of fortune cookies for after dinner. They are fun, delicious, and easy on the wasitline!

Great for Kids

Kids love this dish because it is thick with noodles. The cabbage looks a lot like the noodles and has a very innocuous taste. They can also help with the cooking by slicing up some of the ingredients with a platsic knife or breaking up the ramen noodles before boiling.
