Barbecue Chicken Pizza

An Easy Recipe for Pizza with a BBQ Flavor

May 12, 2009 Thomas Wyatt

Barbecue chicken pizza is a delicious alternative to the traditional pie, and it is actually easy to make at home.

Barbecue chicken pizza has recently become quite popular, as some of the major pizza chains have been offering it over the last few years. And fortunately, it is actually quite easy to make at home, for little cost, and with the use of just a few basic ingredients. This type of pizza incorporates the taste of sweet barbecue chicken into the traditional pizza pie. The sauce acts as a sweet and tangy replacement for the tomato or pizza sauce, and the chicken replaces other meats, but the rest is pretty much the same as any other basic pizza.

Ingredients

  • 1 can of pizza crust dough (anything like Pillsbury Pizza Crust Classic)
  • 4 large chicken tenders, uncooked
  • 1 red onion
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce, any flavor
  • 1/2 cup feta or Gouda cheese
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • salt
  • pepper
  • olive oil
  • basil
  • chicken seasoning

Cooking Instructions

  1. Cut Chicken tenders into smaller strips or chunks the size that you want them on the pizza. Heat a pan or skillet on the stove at medium heat with two tablespoons of olive oil in it.
  2. Add any chicken seasoning, basil, salt and pepper to the cut up chicken tenders, and saute them on the skillet. Cook them until they are no longer raw.
  3. Grease a cookie sheet and remove dough from canister, and spread to desired thickness on the cookie sheet.
  4. Spread about one half of cup of BBQ sauce over the raw dough, but leave a little around the outside barren, as this will act as the crust.
  5. Sprinkle all of the feta or Gouda cheese over the barbecue sauce (make sure the cheese is crumbled or in small pieces), and sprinkle about half of the mozzarella cheese over that.
  6. Thinly slice the desired amount of red onion, and add it to the crust over the cheese.
  7. Add the sauteed chicken pieces over the cheese, and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella over the chicken.
  8. Bake in the oven for about fifteen minutes at 425 degrees, or until the crust has begun to harden and the cheese has thoroughly melted.
  9. Take out, slice, and enjoy!

All of the materials for the pizza should cost around fifteen dollars, and it is really worth the expenses. There are possible variations of the pizza as well, as other cheeses may be substituted for the feta, Gouda, and mozzarella, and other vegetables may be added. This pizza is very similar to the spinach alfredo pizza, as the sauces are the only significant difference. For a really sweet BBQ chicken pizza, more barbecue sauce, with a honey or brown sugar flavor will do the trick. Slices of tomato can also be very tasty on the pie, and green pepper slices always make a delicious addition. There are a number of experimentations that work with this pizza, but the original recipe is delicious, easy, and cheap!
