  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 10 cloves garlic
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 can tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium red tomato
  • 1 head romaine lettuce
  • 1 tsp hunan red chili sauce (optional)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 packet Sazon
  • 1 tbsp Adobo
  • 1 bottle taco sauce
  • 1 jar salsa
  • 1 package of taco shells or flour tortillas

Preparation

  1. Place a large skillet on medium-low heat.
  2. While this is heating up, peel and chop the onion, the garlic cloves, the tomato, and the lettuce.
  3. Pour the olive oil, half of the onion, and all of the garlic into the skillet. Leave simmering for 5-10 minutes. Set aside the lettuce, tomatoes, and the rest of the onions in separate bowls.
  4. Use a paring knife to trim remove a fine layer of skin from the carrot. Rinse thoroughly and grate. Then chop up finely chop grated pieces of carrot and them to the skillet.
  5. Next, add the beef. Do not add turkey yet. It takes less time to cook and may dry too quickly if put in immediately. Stir the beef frequently to break apart the meat and prevent it from clumping.
  6. Add the Sazon, the taco seasoning, and the tomato paste. Keep stirring.
  7. Time to put the turkey in. Stir until it has blended with the other ingredients. For a hot and spicy dish, this would be the perfect time to add the red chili sauce. This is optional.
  8. Finally, add the tablespoon of Adobo (or more to taste). The meat is fully cooked when it is light brown and no longer sticks together.
  9. Split evenly into tortillas or taco shells. Add tomatoes, onions, lettuce, taco sauce, and salsa as preferred.

This recipe serves 8-10 people and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Tacos can also be prepared with beef or turkey alone (beef will add time while turkey will reduce it). Using half beef and half turkey reduces the fat content of the meal, and thanks to the vegetables tacos not only end up with more flavor. They also provide a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals that should be included in one's daily diet.
