Cooks who are looking for something easy to make for their families' dinners will find this simple chicken dish elegant enough to serve to dinner guests.

This Asian-inspired dish requires only five common ingredients found in most kitchens. And, it goes together quickly, like in under five minutes. Yet those who taste this simple dish will think the cook has slaved over a hot stove all day as it tastes like a lot of work went into making it. Cooks do need to plan ahead, however, as the dish needs to be marinated. The easy-to-make marinade can be used on other meats, too, which makes it very versatile indeed.

This recipe comes from a friend in Beijing who serves it as a side dish. The dish is so delicious, however, that it can easily star in its own show as a main course. It looks -- and tastes -- that elegant!

Soy-Honey Glazed Chicken Drumsticks:

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Soy sauce

Preparation

  1. Wash and pat the chicken drumsticks dry. Thaw the drumsticks first if they are frozen, then wash and pat dry.
  2. Mince the garlic and put in a cup or small bowl. Use more or less garlic depending on personal preferences.
  3. Add the honey to the garlic
  4. Add the oil to the garlic and honey mixture and stir until mixed thoroughly.
  5. Put the drumsticks in a flat plastic or glass container with a tight-fitting lid.
  6. Pour enough soy sauce over the drumsticks to cover the bottom of the dish.
  7. Pour the garlic-honey-oil mixture over the drumsticks. Put the lid on the dish and shake to mix everything up and coat the drumsticks. Refrigerate the dish for at least one hour to overnight. Be sure to shake the dish up every couple of hours.
  8. About an hour before serving, transfer the chicken mixture to an oven-proof pan and bake at 350° until done. Four plump chicken legs take about 45 minutes to bake. (Note: the marinade can either be poured over the chicken before baking which results in a lovely glaze or discarded. Discarding the marinade results in a milder flavor.)
  9. Collect the compliments!

The marinade makes enough for four chicken drumsticks. Cooks making more than four drumsticks should Increase the amount of the marinade ingredients.

The marinade can also be used over chicken thighs, turkey legs, and pork tenderloin or chops. Use thhe marinade over chicken wings to make a tasty appetizer.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with a simple mixed green salad; steamed broccoli or carrots, and fruit such as berries, grapes or cantaloupe, rice is optional. If serving to dinner guests, add wine and a simple dessert to complete the meal.
