Get two easy, fuss-free recipes for crowd favorites macaroni and cheese and little smokies.
Everyone loves mac and cheese and lil' smokies. The great thing about these two dishes is that they can be prepared ahead of time and warmed in the slow cooker. These homestyle recipes are great for family potlucks, office functions, and even kids' birthday parties!
Ingredients:
Procedure:
Boil the macaroni as directed. Drain and place macaroni in the bottom of the slow cooker. Melt the stick of butter and pour the melted butter over the macaroni. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper over top. Mix the can of soup with the can of evaporated milk. Pour over the macaroni in the slow cooker. Beat the two eggs and mix the regular milk into the eggs. Pour this mixture over the macaroni. Add 3/4 of the cheese to the crock pot. Mix all the ingredients in the slow cooker until well blended. Then sprinkle a little more cheese on top (you may reserve some for serving) and sprinkle a little paprika on top of the cheese if desired. Cook the mac and cheese on low for 3 hours.
If you can only find the larger size of evaporated milk, that will also work. Another acceptable substitution is to use a lower-fat milk in the recipe than the 2%.
For a food that makes a great compliment to homestyle mac and cheese, try little smokies. These two dishes make a great pairing and all the work can be done ahead of time, as long as you have two slow cookers.
Ingredients:
Procedure:
Mix the grape jelly, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard together in the slow cooker. Turn the heat to high and continue to stir and cook for about two minutes until the sauce seems well blended. With the slow cooker still on high, add the package of little smokies. Cook on high heat for about two hours and then turn the heat to low until you are ready to serve them. Check the heat occasionally during the high setting and if they are sticking to the bottom, turn heat to low. Every slow cooker is a bit different.
