What is Sea Salt?

Regular table salt is 99.9% sodium chloride that is refined from rock salt or sea salt. Sea Salt is only 98% sodium chloride and thus tastes different (and comes in a variety of flavors) because it retains its natural mineral content. Another benefit of natural sea salt is that it doesn’t have sugar, anti-caking ingredients or potassium iodide added to it. Sea salt is made by the natural evaporation of seawater. Commercially harvested sea salt is collected in man-made pools on a protected area of beach. Among the more common sea salts are Celtic Sea Salt, Fleur de Sel, French Sea Salt, Sel Gris, and Hawaiian Sea Salt.
