Smoked Alaskan Salmon is a favorite of Alaska's residents and summer ushers in the freshest recipes around. This unique smoked summer flavor adds a mouthwatering taste.

Alaskans treasure the pacific wild salmon, not only because it nurtures their bodies but because it nurtures their home. Alaska’s rich watersheds in turn create an idyllic home for the wild salmon. Salmon are seen everywhere from the rivers they spawn in to T-Shirts and paintings, to sculpture, native totems and the kitchen counter. This fabulous fish provides for a kitchen rich in recipes you will want to repeat.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¼ cup of flaked smoked salmon
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup chopped fresh basil
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded Romano/parmesan cheese
  • 12 oz. of your favorite Alfredo sauce
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 large ball of pizza dough to fill 15” pan
  • ¼ cup chopped red or green pepper

Baking Notes and Topping Tips:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Roll out pizza dough so that it fills the pan ½ inch thick with a ¾ inch rim for the outer crust. Spread white Alfredo sauce then layer the freshly chopped basil over the sauce before adding any other toppings. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella then the tomatoes, onions and peppers. Then lay the salmon as a top layer, finishing it of with a dusting of the Romano/parmesan mix, making sure to especially sprinkle this cheese around the edges so it will melt onto the crust.

Place on a middle rack in oven for 10-15 minutes or until cheese has browned around edges of crust. Pizza may need to be turned 180 degrees so that it cooks evenly depending on the oven.

Purchasing Smoked Salmon:

Though the best place to acquire smoked salmon is right off a coastal Alaskan town, not all folks live in or have easy access to a coastal Alaskan town. However many places such as Jerry’s Meats and Seafood’s of Juneau, Alaska will ship smoked fillets right to your door. Many supermarkets may sell smoked salmon, though the exact origin of the fish and how fresh it is will never be exact. Alaska is the last great place for healthy stocks of wild Pacific salmon. Using fresh salmon can make a huge difference in how your pizza pie tastes.

The Best Dough:

Though the best dough is usually made from scratch, many supermarkets sell balls of frozen pizza dough, which make a decent pie when defrosted and stretched out. Many local pizzerias will also sell dough balls that are fresher for this purpose. If you have your own favorite recipe for pizza dough, then go wild and make this pizza the best your taste buds have ever had. Adding herbs such as basil, oregano and rosemary right into the dough can give it that extra punch!
